How your baby's growing at 11 weeks of pregnancy
Your baby is still smaller than your thumb, but her critical development is almost complete. Over the next six months she'll grow larger and stronger, getting ready for life outside your womb (uterus).

Tiny tooth buds are starting to appear in your baby's mouth. And her fingers and toes are no longer webbed. Some of her bones are beginning to harden.

If you | ve noticed that you | re leaking urine when you sneeze, laugh or cough, it's natural for you to feel worried. But urinary stress incontinence is actually common during pregnancy.

The pregnancy hormones progesterone and relaxin cause your pelvic floor tissues and ligaments to loosen. This can lead to weakness in the sphincter muscles that control the release of urine from your bladder.

The good news is that doing regular pelvic floor exercises will soon put a stop to your leaks. Squeeze your pelvic floor for 10 seconds. Do 10 repetitions, three or four times a day. These exercises can also help your body to prepare for birth, so it's never too early to start.

What you can do at 11 weeks pregnant
You are due for your nuchal translucency (NT) scan around now. This is probably one of the most exciting scans of your pregnancy. Your baby's heartbeat will be loud and clear and since your baby is so small, you'll be able to see her full body and watch her move around in your womb.

It can be a very moving moment to see your baby on the screen and hear her heartbeat for the first time. It's a good idea to go for this scan with your husband so he can participate in this moment.

Along with the double marker test, the NT scan screens for your risk of carrying a baby with Down's Syndrome.

The results of both these screening tests combined give you a fairly accurate risk assessment for Down's. The NT scan will also check that your baby is developing as expected. Your doctor will discuss the results of your tests with you at your next appointment.

If you suffer from severe nausea and vomiting, you may not have put on much weight yet, or may even have lost a bit. As long as your doctor is satisfied with how your baby is developing, don't worry, the kilos will start adding up in your second and third trimesters.
