Your baby will grow a lot this month, going from about 1.6cm (0.6in) long at eight weeks, to 5.4cm (2.1in) long from head to bottom by the end of 12 weeks. His face will start to look more human as his eyes, jaw and ears develop and move into place. His nose is forming, along with his ability to smell.

His arms are growing longer and he has distinct, webbed fingers, which will soon divide into separate digits. Your baby's legs, feet and toes will soon grow and develop too. From about 10 weeks, the placenta will start providing your baby with the nutrients and oxygen he needs.

You won't feel it for a while yet, but your baby is already moving around, stretching and kicking his new limbs.

Note: Every baby develops differently. This page is designed to give a general idea of how a fetus grows in the womb.
