After How Many Weeks IVF Pregnancy is Safe? Symptoms Week by Week

Do you know about IVF Pregnancy? IVF pregnancy symptoms week by week, after how many weeks ivf pregnancy is safe?

Infertility has overshadowed the hopes of more than 20% of the Indian reproductive population to experience the joy of becoming parents.

Infertility is a condition of the reproductive system defined by the inability to achieve pregnancy even after 12 months or more of repeated unprotected sexual intercourse. Categorized into two types namely Primary and secondary infertility, conditions compromising fertility are seen in both men and women.

Hormones and genetics play a dominant role in the growth, functioning, and regulation of reproductive organs. Hence, the prime contributors to infertility include the imbalance of hormones and the predisposition of genes contributing to infertility.

The social and emotional implications one undergoes while dealing with infertility are immense. Age, lifestyle habits like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, stress, being overweight, certain medications are some of the risk factors causing infertility.

While seeking treatment for the underlying fertility issue, the infertility specialist doctor will take you through diagnostic tests that range from semen analysis, urine analysis to genetic tests and ultrasound in men. In women, uterus evaluation through hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, hormonal assay, hysterosalpingogram, and an ultrasound, can help check the status of infertility.

Only precise and accurate diagnosis can mediate proper treatment. Some of the infertility treatment options your infertility specialist can recommend are:

Artificial insemination or intrauterine insemination (IUI),
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF),
Third-party assisted ART with donor eggs/sperms/embryos or gestational carriers
Surgical treatment
Hormonal medications and therapies, etc are some of the treatment options.

IVF Process

Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) has significantly helped many to move out of the shadows of infertility. These techniques are highly scientific and architecturally synonymous with the natural biological process. One of the ART techniques is In Vitro Fertilization or IVF.

IVF has been a ray of sunshine for couples seeking infertility treatment and wanting to have children. IVF procedure includes a series of stages and major stages of IVF are carried out in an incubated laboratory set-up.
The stages of IVF are:

STAGE 1: OVARY STIMULATION: The first day of your menstruation is the day of commencement of the procedure. Since the first day of your menstrual cycle, fertilization medicine injections of HCG( Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) and LH( Luteinizing Hormone) are administered which stimulate the ovaries to produce more follicles for better IVF results.

STAGE 2: EGG RETRIEVAL: Generally, after 15 days of ovarian stimulation, eggs are retrieved through a small surgical procedure. This procedure needs administration of local anesthesia and a guided ultrasound. Around 8-16 eggs are retrieved via the vaginal route.

STAGE 3: RETRIEVAL OF SPERMS: On the same day of the egg retrieval, the sperms are extracted from the semen sample collected. Sometimes, testicular aspiration techniques are used to obtain sperm from the reproductive organs.

STAGE 4: FERTILIZATION: The eggs and sperms retrieved are mixed and left to fertilize in the laboratory. To enable precise fertilization, ICSI( Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) can be performed in required situations.

STAGE 5: EMBRYO DEVELOPMENT: Once the fertilization is accomplished, the embryos formed are allowed to develop in an incubated environment like the mother’s womb. With meticulous monitoring, the embryos are left to develop for 3-5 days until they reach the 6-8 celled stage.

STAGE 6: EMBRYO TRANSFER: Once the embryos attain a 6-8 celled stage, viable embryos are transferred with the help of a catheter that transfers one or more embryos into the vagina.

Before the transfer procedure, embryos need to hatch from their outer shell covering. Sometimes, this hatching is done with the help of lasers. This process is called assisted hatching.

In some cases, extra viable embryos can be frozen and stored for later use.

Implantation of the embryos takes place generally after 1 or 2 days of embryo transfer. After 12-15 days of embryo transfer, pregnancy tests can confirm the commencement of a successful conceiving.

The fertilization rate of IVF and attainment of a fruitful pregnancy at IVF junction is above 80%.

We understand how extensive the entire procedure of IVF is and the amount of stress you would have had while going through the IVF process. But, once you have got your pregnancy reports positive, the journey ahead would be similar to that of a normal pregnancy.

Extra medical care and support from the IVF expert is assured especially during the first three months of IVF pregnancy after which the obstetrician takes care of the delivery of the child. Tests like blood tests, ultrasounds, fetal echocardiography are done in both types of pregnancies that confirm the normal growth of the babies.

Maintaining a healthy diet and avoiding strenuous exercises is a part of your pregnancy schedule. It’s a myth that women with IVF pregnancy need complete bed rest for 9 months or they need extra medications.
