01/5Planning a baby?
The moment you decide to grow your family is the most special time. However, leaving the adorable feelings aside, babymaking involves taking into consideration a lot of other factors. If you do a google search, you will be bombarded with information ranging from the best time, best month to the age to have a baby.
While there is no specific time (or the day) which is most favourable to have a baby, a new study has revealed that most couples achieve success when they conceive around the chilly winter months, as compared to other months. Curious? Read!
02/5The study
Ever wondered why so many babies in the world are born around August and September? A study published in the journal, Human Reproduction has now found out that the chances of ahieving favourable results are higher around the late fall and early winter months.
A survey was conducted on 14,331 parents to observe the reason for the seasonal spike up in birth rates. The study used data from women who had been trying to conceive for no more than six months from the United States, Canada and Denmark.
The participants were tracked on a number of factors (every two months till the time of conception) including details like the frequency of intercourse, menstrual cycles, ovulation, age. Apart from this, other lifestyle factors such as their diet, smoking habits, education and income levels.
When all these factors were taken into consideration, it was observed that there was a stark decline in fecundability around the spring and fall season. Fecundability refers to the probability of a woman conceiving within a particular time period, or a menstrual cycle.

03/5Does the time or the month of conception really matter?
Deciding when you want to have a baby is an important step in your family life. The time you conceive a baby can impact its health and personality as well.
Studies say that a child's health might be affected by the date of conception, time and year of pregnancy, diet or prospective parents and other related physiological factors.
Apart from this, planning a baby in the winters can also be a personal choice. Some feel that pregnancy in the winter months is easier to carry through, as compared to the high-temperature months.
You might also count in decisions surrounding your work profile, family and other choices.

04/5Weighing the pros and cons
In 2018, another study supported the fact that winters indeed are the best time to conceive. While cold weather can make people spend time indoors, it is also said that sperm quality is comparatively better in winters, making the process a little easier. Statistics also say that babies planned in the winters also have a higher than usual survival rate.
That being said, while winters might be the most preferred time for gestation, women suffering from chronic problems, or seasonal affective disorder (SAD) are more likely to encounter hormonal problems associated with pregnancy than other moms which can take a toll on their emotional health as well.

05/5Conclusion
Ultimately, it is important to understand that conceiving requires a lot more efforts than having sex at the right time. Working out your cyle, being mindful of your ovulation cycle can cut down on the stress and make it a little easier.

Role of a male in fertilization
Men play a major role in fertilization. Around 200 million sperms are mixed with semen to enable a man to ejaculate. In most men, 15 to 45 million of these sperm are healthy enough to fertilize an egg, although only 400 survive after a man ejaculates. And only 40 of these actually manage to reach the vicinity of eggs.
After capacitation, which allows the remaining sperm to drill a hole through the tough outer layer of the egg, only one lone sperm reaches the egg for fertilization and conception.
